#2 Initial Modelling

Physical Modelling

to follow the plans, separate each volume.

photographs with natural sunlight to show shadows that form on site during afternoon

Trying to use Rhino to draw accurate dimensions in scale

there is a rise on the "classroom buildings" as i want there to be a sense of levels, giving each space their hierarchy of importance/progression.

use of different levels + geometrical and irregular shapes are intended to give children their imagination and provide them a different experience, something they have not seen before.

also, the design is intended to push them to explore around the site and the building's meaning is to show them views they will remember.

Steven Holl Architects - Glassell School of Art - Houston

inspired by the play of levels and link to (de)constructivism with use of industrial materials, but also its thought on movement and irregularity.

a gentle rise from ground level.
for children, stairs are quite an issue, thus gentle sloping ramps can be universal to all users, even for visitors.

the heart of the design is also a play of levels, and geometry in plan. with simple shapes oriented in a complex arrangement.

Pottery Workshop - Me

I realised how the ideas I come to love all derive from this sense of movement, especially vertical movement.

signify division of spaces, signify connection of spaces

relating to current design, I must divide rooms into individual spaces that are connected to one another in an interesting way for the children to remember even after nursery.

not only connect my structure to itself, but to the outside world. this means enhancing the children's mental wellbeing.

physical, cognitive and psycho-social skills should also be enhanced with the intention of each space (communal rooms, transformable hallways, furniture).
