#2 Initial Modelling

Physical Modelling to follow the plans, separate each volume. photographs with natural sunlight to show shadows that form on site during afternoon  the sun would reach this spot during 15:00 hours during a  September. Digital Modelling Trying to use Rhino to draw accurate dimensions in scale there is a rise on the "classroom buildings" as i want there to be a sense of levels, giving each space their hierarchy of importance/progression.  use of different levels + geometrical and irregular shapes are intended to give children their imagination and provide them a different experience , something they have not seen before.  also, the design is intended to push them to explore around the site and the building's meaning is to show them views they will remember. Steven Holl Architects - Glassell School of Art - Houston inspired by the play of levels and link to (de)constructivism with use of industrial materials , but also its thought on movement and irregularity. a g...

Concept #2 Moving From Design #1 I found there was a lack of thought on how the building was going to maximise space on site.  Circulation was shallow and spaces were boxed, having no interesting features or forms. Concept #2: "A New Leaf" with this I want to resemble a leaf that gathers: the building, the people and the landscape. these show how the building responds to the landscape, where it curves around the moat, maximizing space while keeping form . the imagery of a leaf is justified with the arrangement, orientation and shape when seen in plan .  linking to my Previous Precedents: Modus Architects #1 #2 the building has for, but builds around site, building acts as an extension to features. for #2, the central movement that branches out into the rooms resemble the mid vein of a leaf,  that disperses outward. Next I went to Digi-maps and measured along the straight train edge (starting Point) thus giving me these dimensions .      I already ...

Concept Design #1

I wanted a sense of radial movement outward from the entrance. the entrance is the beginning and the end , and going round the space feels radial until you hit the entrance once again.  Adolf Loos' "Raumplan" each room should like to each other as a spatial sequence . Doors are important and are placed at the corners that look diagonal into a square room. "Diagonal Visual" making the space feel larger (freedom)   a Tree -branching to diferent rooms enter at the root of the tree symbolises: starting at the stem, exiting into the world, nursery is a fun place = tree the outside world = bigger, roots outside world is dirty, harsh, rough
